FOLKLORE LINKS
How real Catholics lived their lives - and how
you, too, may achieve the Catholic mood.
Christendom was not only the institutions of Church
and State. Alongside altar and throne was the cottage,
the place where people lived the Faith. As we know all
too well, "the Church is in ruins, the State is
in jars." Despite that, life goes on. In many places,
customs left-over from Catholic days (particularly centring
around the Church Year) survive. Included under this
heading are Protestant and Orthodox areas whose roots
are Catholic. Studying these and perhaps adapting some
customs to our own lives can help maintain both Faith
and Sanity. What follows is a series of links, according
to country or region, which feature such things. A word
of warning, however!
Given the successive re-paganisation of society, much
is often made of the pagan roots of various practises.
Before beginning your voyage of discovery, you might
start by giving yourself a truly Catholic point of view
in this area. A good place to begin is the EWTN on-line
library, featured in the religious links section. There
you will find the masterful works by Fr. Francis X.
Weiser and Helen McLoughlin, as well as a few other.
I recommend you begin there. And now, on with the tour!
